After leisurely breakfast, take a full day tour of Old & New Delhi visiting Jama Masjid, drive past Red Fort, enjoy a short rickshaw ride through the crowded market of Chandni Chowk. You can also visit Rajghat the cremation place of Mahatma Gandhi. Post lunch. drive past the Lutyen’s New Delhi’s. You could see Rashtrapati Bhawan (President House) from the outside, Parliament house, stop at India Gate roundabout to take picture. After leisurely breakfast, drive from Delhi to Agra (205 km/3½-4 hrs). Upon arrival check into the hotel. Fewer people would require introduction of “the City of Taj” Agra situated on the bank of river Yamuna. In the vedic period, the city was known as Agravan, the foundation of modern Agra city is said to be laid by one local chieftain Badal Singh in 1475 AD but the real credit should go to the Mughals in general and Shah Jehan in particular, who built Taj Mahal to make the city immortal forever. Afternoon visit impressive Agra Fort, followed by mausoleum of Itmad-Ud-Daulah and in the end visit Mehtab Bagh to see Taj Mahal by sunset. Overnight at hotel
Morning enjoy the 2nd visit of Taj Mahal by sunrise. You will have an option to take a decorated Tonga ride from your hotel till the entrance of the Taj Mahal. Visit Taj Mahal accompanied by an expert guide and learn more about the making of the Taj and related stories. Later we drive to Gwalior (120 km/ 2 hrs), the gateway to Madhya Pradesh, “the Heart of India”. Gwalior was founded by Suraj Sen, a local chief in 8th centry who laid the foundation stone of Gwalior as a token of gratitude to local saint Gwalipa, who had cured his chronic leprosy and built a massive fort known as Gwalior Fort. The glory of Gwalior reached on it top during ruling of Scindia. City is also famous as hometown of Tansen, the greatest Indian Classical musician of all time. Afternoon visit Gwalior Fort and within the fort complex, Gurjari Mahal, Man Mandir Palace. Also visit Jal Vilas Palace the residence of Scindia family and Sas Bahu ka Mandi, Teli ka mandir etc. Overnight at hotel
After breakfast, take India’s fastest train Shatabdi Express departing Gwalior at 9.30 and arriving Bhopal at around 2 pm. Upon arrival you will be transferred to your hotel. Bhopal is capital of Madhya Pradesh and sets a great example of Hindu Muslim bonhomie. Late afternoon visit the heart of Bhopal, Chowk Bazaar & enjoy walking through its overcrowded narrow lanes. Morning excursion to Sanchi Stupa (46 km/1 hr) north east of the city of Bhopal. Post lunch we will continue to drive south east of Bhopal to explore famous Bhojpureshwar temple at Bhojpur dedicated to Lord Shiva and Bhimbhetaka Rock cut caves & stone age painting some of which are over 30000 years old. After early breakfast, we leave for Bagh Caves (95 / 2 hrs) to see a group of nine rock cut caves famous for mural paintings built around 3rd – 2nd century BC by Buddhists monks, living in viharas. Check out in the morning and drive to Maheshwar (just 75 km/ 1½ hrs), a small town established by Holkar dynasty on the bank of holy Narmada river. En route visit Mandu, just 35 km off Dhar, this small fortress town has several beautiful monuments. Jahaz Mahal, Hindola Mahal, Hoshang Shah’s tomb, Jami masjid, Baz Bahadur Palace, Roopmati Pavilion are all a must see places. Upon arrival at Maheshwar, check into Ahilya Fort, the residence of erstwhile Holdkar rulers, which has now been converted into a beautiful heritage hotel. Overnight at Maheshwar
This day is at leisure to experience the amenities of Ahilya Fort. Within the fort complex, visit Rajgaddi and Rajwada. You could walk along the holy river Narmada, see the devotion and faith of Hindus towards this river, people taking holy bath amidst chanting of mantras by the priest and so on. Morning leave for Omkareshwar (65 km/1½ hrs), one of the 12 Jyotirlingas, dedicated to Hindu god Lord Shiva. Visit the famous Omkareshwar Mahadev temple, Siddhanath temple, Satmatrika temple etc. Later drive to Indore (77 km/1½ hrs) airport for flight to Mumbai.
